How to download transactions from Capital One
Sign in on the Capital One website, open the card or account, and look for Download transactions near the transaction list. Choose CSV and the date range. Card and 360 account downloads come out in different layouts — both work here.
Menus change. Capital One updates its online banking from time to time, so the exact button names may differ from what's described here. If you can't find the option, search Capital One's help pages for “download transactions”.
Credit card downloads
| Transaction Date | Posted Date | Card No. | Description | Category | Debit | Credit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-01-05 | 2026-01-06 | 1234 | SHELL OIL 5744 | Gas/Automotive | 48.20 | |
| 2026-01-07 | 2026-01-07 | 1234 | CAPITAL ONE AUTOPAY PYMT | Payment/Credit | 250.00 |
Card files have two dates: the Transaction Date when you made the purchase and the Posted Date when it reached the account. The converter uses the transaction date by default; switch to the posted date under Change which column is which if that matches your statement better. Purchases are in Debit and payments in Credit.
360 checking and savings downloads
| Account Number | Transaction Description | Transaction Date | Transaction Type | Transaction Amount | Balance |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1234 | Deposit from ACME CORP PAYROLL | 01/06/26 | Credit | 1850.00 | 4301.80 |
| 1234 | Debit Card Purchase - SHELL OIL | 01/07/26 | Debit | 48.20 | 4253.60 |
Here the amount is always positive and the Transaction Type column says whether it is a debit or a credit. The converter applies that sign for you, so a debit becomes money out. Two-digit years such as 26 are read as 2026.
Common problems with Capital One files in QuickBooks
- Every amount positive. Imported as-is, a 360 file turns every purchase into a deposit. The converter uses the Transaction Type to set the sign.
- Two dates on card files. Using a different date from your statement can push transactions into the next month and make reconciliation harder.
- Card files in a bank account. Import card transactions into your credit card account in QuickBooks.
Import the converted file into QuickBooks Online
- In QuickBooks Online, go to Transactions → Bank transactions and choose Upload transactions (it may sit under the arrow next to Link account).
- Select the file you downloaded from the converter, then pick the QuickBooks account it belongs to. Use the credit card account for a card export — not a bank account.
- For a CSV, map Date, Description and Amount, and choose the date format shown in step 3 of the converter. A QBO file skips this screen.
- Review the transactions in the For review tab, then compare the QuickBooks balance with your statement for the same date.
The full walkthrough, with every screen, is in our QuickBooks Online import guide.
Frequently asked questions
Which Capital One downloads does it support?
Both the credit card layout (Transaction Date, Posted Date, Card No., Description, Category, Debit, Credit) and the 360 checking and savings layout (with Transaction Type and Transaction Amount).
Why are all amounts positive in my 360 download?
The 360 layout puts the direction in the Transaction Type column instead of the sign. The converter reads it, so debits become money out.
Which date does it use for card transactions?
The transaction date. You can switch to the posted date in step 2 under “Change which column is which”.
Can I make a QBO file instead of a CSV?
Yes. Choose QBO (Web Connect) in step 3; it imports into QuickBooks Online and Desktop without column mapping.
Is my Capital One data uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, and the file never leaves your device.
