Free ProperSoft Alternative: ProperConvert, CSV2QBO and Bank2QBO Compared
ProperSoft makes ProperConvert, desktop software for converting bank files and PDF statements into QuickBooks, Quicken and spreadsheet formats. If you searched for CSV2QBO or Bank2QBO, ProperSoft’s website now offers ProperConvert. Here’s how it compares with a free converter that runs in your browser — and when it’s worth paying for.
Disclosure: useme4 is our site. Facts about ProperSoft below come from ProperSoft’s own website (propersoft.net, including its pricing and download pages) as read on 16 October 2026. ProperSoft, ProperConvert, CSV2QBO and Bank2QBO are trademarks of their owner; we’re not affiliated with it.
What happened to CSV2QBO and Bank2QBO?
ProperSoft used to sell separate apps named after their job, such as CSV2QBO and Bank2QBO. As of 16 October 2026, its website sells one app, ProperConvert, and its older Bank2QBO product page no longer loads. ProperSoft doesn’t publish an end date for the older apps, so if you have an existing license, ask ProperSoft’s support what applies to you.
What ProperConvert offers
According to ProperSoft’s website:

- Inputs: PDF (text-based or scanned), CSV, Excel, text files, QBO, QFX, OFX, QIF, QMTF and MT940.
- Outputs: QBO (Web Connect), IIF, QBJ, QFX, QIF, OFX, CSV and Excel.
- Price: Complete Monthly $19.99 a month or Complete Yearly $179.99 a year per user, with team and enterprise plans and a 14-day money-back guarantee on a first recurring order.
- Trial: free to download; the trial “converts up to 10 transactions per file” and lets you preview the rest.
What useme4 offers instead
useme4 is a set of free converters that run in your web browser. Like ProperConvert, your statement isn’t uploaded — it’s read on your device. The differences are that there’s nothing to install and nothing to pay, and in exchange we write fewer formats.

When ProperConvert is the better choice
- You need IIF, QBJ, QIF or QFX. For example IIF for QuickBooks Desktop transactions, journal entries in QBJ, or QIF for Quicken. We don’t write these.
- Your bank gives you MT940, QIF or QMTF files. We don’t read those.
- You convert large volumes every month and want support, saved settings and a desktop workflow.
When a free, in-browser alternative makes more sense
- More than 10 transactions, occasionally. For a one-off or a few statements a month, a subscription is hard to justify.
- You only need QBO, Excel, CSV, OFX or a Xero file. That covers QuickBooks Online and Desktop Web Connect, Xero, FreeAgent, Sage, MYOB and spreadsheets — see which format to use.
- You can’t install software — a work laptop, a Chromebook or a client’s computer.
How to convert a statement with useme4
- Download the statement from online banking — as CSV, Excel or OFX if your bank offers it, otherwise PDF.
- For a PDF, open the PDF bank statement converter; for a CSV, Excel or OFX file, the bank statement to QuickBooks converter or CSV to Xero.
- Check the preview: a date after the 12th of the month, and the totals of money in and out against the statement.
- Download Excel, CSV, QBO, OFX or a Xero file, and import it the usual way.
Several months? Convert each and join them with Combine CSV and Excel files, which removes the overlap between statements.
A note on accuracy
No converter reads every statement perfectly. Both ProperConvert and useme4 show you the transactions before you save the file. Our PDF converter shows a running-balance check where the statement prints balances. Whichever you use, compare the converted totals with the statement before you rely on them — it takes a minute and catches the occasional misread line. Our duplicates guide explains how to avoid importing overlapping periods.
Frequently asked questions
Is CSV2QBO the same as ProperConvert?
CSV2QBO was one of ProperSoft’s earlier apps. As of 16 October 2026, ProperSoft’s website sells ProperConvert, which converts CSV and Excel files to QBO among many other formats. Ask ProperSoft about older licenses.
Does useme4 make IIF or QIF files?
No. useme4 writes Excel, CSV, QBO, OFX and QuickBooks or Xero CSV files. If you need IIF, QBJ, QIF or QFX, ProperConvert or another paid converter is the better choice.
Is a browser converter as private as desktop software?
For useme4, yes: the converter runs in your browser and your file isn’t sent anywhere. You can check this yourself in your browser’s network panel.
